On Tuesday December 7th, Hub LA Founding Members, foundation leaders, and private investors gathered at the California Endowment in Downtown Los Angeles at the invitation of Academies for Social Enterprise and Hub Los Angeles for a seminar on Impact Investing. A generally accepted definition of Impact Investing is when “investments create positive social or environmental impact beyond financial return,” according to JP Morgan and the Rockefeller Foundation. Carmageddon couldn’t stop these young professionals from attending Connect 2011, an invitation-only event designed to connect emerging technology companies with the nonprofit community. Last night Rent Downtown Los Angeles (#Rentdtla) ended it’s four week run in a far off Broadway abandoned warehouse in Boyle Heights. Rent debuted on Broadway in 1996 - a story of love, artists trying to make it, and of course, the gentrification of NYC.
