As electric cars such as the Nissan Leaf or the Chevy Volt get into mass market, they will start to draw larger amounts of power from the electric grid. Solar rooftops here in Southern california in combination with wind and solar generation in large scale create further opportunities and challenges for the electric grid. The workshop brings together various perspectives ranging from advanced technology to policy to the role of utilities to enable and create the Smart Grid of the future, that in addition to seamlessly allowing EVs and renewables, enables consumer participation, dynamic demand response, market-driven pricing, improved reliability and enhanced efficiency.
